    • 3 Total Copies: Keep three copies of your photos and videos (the original, plus two backups).
    • 2 Different Media Types: Store your files on two different types of media (e.g., your computer + an external hard drive).
    • 1 Off-site Backup: Keep one copy off-site, such as in the cloud.
How to Implement 3-2-1 for Your Wedding Files
Here is how to set up your 3-2-1 backup once you download your files from Story Studios:
1. The Primary Copy (Computer)
Once you download your images and videos, save them in a dedicated folder on your primary computer or laptop.
2. The Second Copy (External Hard Drive)
Purchase a reliable external hard drive (or even better, a NAS—Network Attached Storage) and copy your files there. Important: Keep this drive in a different location than your computer, perhaps in a fireproof safe.
3. The Third Copy (Cloud Storage)
Use a trusted cloud service like Google Drive, or Dropbox to keep an off-site copy. If your home is affected by fire, flood, or theft, this copy ensures your files are safe.
Why You Need More Than Just a USB Drive
Many couples think a USB drive is a long-term storage solution. It is not. USB drives can easily be lost, damaged, or suffer from “bit rot,” where files become corrupted over time.
